update: 0115 hrs, Saturday – Just received info from someone who talked with a friend that was one of those customers taken to Manila.
He had to
show a passport, finger printed and then released. Of course he had to make his way back to AC on his own. There was no payment of money but of course, the bottom line is that he was hassled, taken to Manila and put through some shit. His only “crime” was being a customer.
So now, I have to tell everyone to have at least a cy of your passport handy when visiting bars in AC and have enough transportation money on hand to pay your way back to AC. Was this a test run to see what they could get away with? I will try to find out more specific information.
When I turned on my computer today I read a number of Emails informing me that another raid had taken place, this timed a Korean owned bar, and that customers rounded up and taken to Camp Crame. I did not want to believe this and was very reluctant to report it.
I contacted a friend that has some police contacts and he said he would get back to me. His response to me, after a few hours was: Sisters Bar Raid Update – Team from Camp Crame conducted the raid. All the staff and 12 foreigners brought to Manila, human trafficking charges.”
I also received this Email message:
“hi, just wanted to make you aware that sisters bar on walking street angeles was apparently raided last night, seems from eye witness reports that all the customers were also arrested in the raid, obviously the authorities will be asking for huge $$$ for the arrested customers problems to vanish. Up till now, although the majority of ac bars have been raided at some time only the girls were being arrested but the raids still has had a huge impact on the numbers of punters willing to visit ac.
Think that if these reports of all customers being arrested is in fact true then it is alas, the final nail in the coffin for angeles.

Needless to say, this is something we did not want to see in Angeles City. In the past there has been what, two or three customers held and jacked up for money over a period of one or two years. But, no mass apprehension of customers of this scale. Was this legal? We will have to wait to see what happens. Is this an example of extreme greed on the part of a certain group of policemen in Manila? Maybe. For sure there are a lot of question but at this time, no answers. Should tourists and residents of AC be pissed off, you bet? For sure our Mayor and Alex C. will probably have no comment at all. Would this happen in Barrio Barretto? I doubt it.
It is time for ALL bar and hotel owners to join forces and fight this blatant abuse of power being thrown against this community. Take those hundreds of thousands of Pesos being funneled to certain organization for protection to a general fund that would fund a team of lawyers to react to these raids. It is time for all of the local employees in the bars to march on City Hall in protest to the way they are being treated. Regretfully, this will never happen. The entertainment area has a history of not being able to work together.
Just as I was writing this I received an update from a source that they even apprehended a guy that was just outside watching what was going on. Unf–k–g believable!
This angers me, frustrates me and scares me. What the hell am I supposed to advise tourists now? Man, enough is enough!
