With long lines and under the table transactions, dealing with government offices in the Philippines can easily turn into a horror story.
Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to set a 72-hour deadline for the completion of all government transactions is a welcome change.
“I don’t want to see people queuing,” Duterte said.

Q&A: TIME correspondent Charlie Campbell on Duterte, Pinoys, and PH politics

TIME magazine correspondent Charlie Campbell's thinkpiece, "People Keep Calling Rodrigo Duterte the Philippine Donald Trump. They’re Wrong," got a lot of buzz because it dared to contradict what many other media outfits were insisting — that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte is the so-called "Donald Trump of Asia."

Duterte: 'I believe in God, but I do not believe in religions'

When asked about his stand on religion, Duterte replied, "For the record, I believe in God, but I do not believe in religions. Period. And the most hypocritical institutions in the Philippines, guess who?"
Duterte then went on to slam the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church, accusing its bishops of selectively following the supposed "Separation of Church and State."

Duterte will survive bold statements vs church: analyst
The boldness of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte against the Church may fly by the heads of some of the Catholics in the Philippines, an analyst observed.

Duterte slams 3 gov't agencies for allegedly being 'most corrupt'

Duterte slams 3 gov't agencies for allegedly being 'most corrupt'
He isn't in office yet, but he already knows his targets. When he spoke to reporters in an impromptu press conference in Davao City on Mon night, May 23, incoming President Rodrigo Duterte identified what he referred to as the three most corrupt government agencies: Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Bureau of Customs (BOC), and Land Transportation Office (LTO).
.. I-abolish ko na lang para wala na (I want to abolish them so they'll no longer exist)."

Look: Tanauan mayor parades drug suspects in 'Flores de Pusher'
In the Philippines, a celebration called Flores de Mayo is held every May. Mayor Antonio Halili came up with his own version called "Flores de Pusher," a walk of shame for drug suspects in Tanauan City, Batangas.
In spite of protests from the Commission of Human Rights, 11 suspected drug pushers were paraded in town while wearing signs that read: "Ako'y Pusher, Wag Tularan (I am a pusher. do not imitate me.)" Three of the suspects were minors.

Duterte inauguration will be low-key, he'll give 5-minute speech

Duterte inauguration will be low-key, he'll give 5-minute speech
Don't expect anything grand during the inauguration of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte, as he plans to make it as low-key as possible. For starters, he will take his oath of office at Malacañan Palace to lessen the expenses that are usually involved in the ceremony.
.... "Duterte, who returned to Davao City after winning the May 9 elections, said he is flying to Manila on the day of the inauguration, June 30, which is a Thursday," reports ABS-CBN News. "I'll go there when I'm going to take my oath of office. If the flight is delayed, there will be no oath-taking, I'll leave it up to people" ... The report likewise added that "Duterte has yet to decide where he will stay following his inauguration. He explained that he is considering going back to Davao City after his inauguration, where he plans to hold office as President."

They just pretend that they advice me, that's the truth. [...] Even my political strategies, it's all my idea. [...] It's all me. I'm not boasting."

No presidential convoy for Duterte

No presidential convoy for Duterte
Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte is not inclined to have a presidential convoy, saying he is used to just having two vehicles with him when he is going around to perform his duties.
“I do not want to be followed around,” Duterte told reporters in a press conference on Monday night here.
“I’ve been used to only two cars. The media of Davao knows that. I’d like to maintain it that way,” he added.
When asked how he would react if the Presidential Security Group (PSG) insists on the security protocol, Duterte answered: “Di sila na lang mag-presidente (They should be the president instead).”
He also joked that those who want to assassinate him should not target the vehicle of his security aides.
Earlier, Duterte said he does not want to use the limousine being used by the president and prefers to use his pick-up truck as his presidential vehicle.
