Bounty for Duterte and De la Rosa, now at PHP1B
This will leave you wondering about how much money is involved in the illegal trade of drugs. Who has that much to spare?!
20 Drug and crime lords, mostly serving time at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), are pooling together money for a PHP1-billion bounty for the heads of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, incoming Philippine National Police chief Ronald de la Rosa, a new senator and a prisons official. ...
("The convicts are going crazy. They don’t know if Digong will really carry out his threat to kill the drug lords in prison.")

Arrested: 66-year-old woman tagged as Caloocan City’s 'drug queen'
When it comes to the illegal drug trade, we don't usually encounter female crime bosses. But that's exactly what 66-year-old Edna Morales is being accused of being. In fact, Caloocan City cops have tagged her as the area's "drug queen."

Canada calls for better protection of foreign tourists in the Philippines
Amid the recent beheading of one of its nationals by the Abu Sayaff, the Canadian government has called for better protection of foreign tourists, who will be visiting Philippines.

“We would like to see more foreign tourists choosing the Philippines as a destination of choice. And obviously security and safety for foreign tourists and community is very, very important. I cannot emphasize this enough, that a safe and secure environment for foreigners who are visiting is necessary,” Canadian Ambassador for the Philippines Neil Reeder said during a press conference of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Makati City yesterday.

‘Bato’ challenges crime bosses to gun duel
Chief Supt. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa posed this challenge to the 20 bigtime drug and crime lords reportedly raising P1-billion bounty for his and President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s heads.

In a chance interview at Camp Crame on Tuesday, Dela Rosa dared crime bosses at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to line up and fight him in a shooting match. If he wins all 20 matches, he gets the P1 billion pot money.

Mt. Pinatubo eruption marks 25th anniversary
It's an explosion whose effects can be felt to this day. This month, we mark the 25th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, which covers Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales. The volcano's eruption on Jun 15, 1991 earned the distinction of being "the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century."

Remembering Mount Pinatubo 25 Years Ago: Mitigating a Crisis
The world’s largest volcanic eruption to happen in the past 100 years was the June 15, 1991, eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines.

Bursts of gas-charged magma exploded into umbrella ash clouds, hot flows of gas and ash descended the volcano’s flanks and lahars swept down valleys. The collaborative work of scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) saved more than 5,000 lives and $250 million in property by forecasting Pinatubo's 1991 climactic eruption in time to evacuate local residents and the U.S. Clark Air Force Base that happened to be situated only 9 miles from the volcano.

Digong crime drive not doable, PNP says
INCOMING Philippine National Police director general Chief Superintendent Rolando Dela Rosa admitted the authorities may not be able to achieve President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign promise of stopping criminality in three to six months.

“In six months, it should be 100 percent. Our objective is that high,” Dela Rosa told journalists. “But I am sure we cannot achieve these goals.”

Saying he will resign if he failes to fulfill Duterte’s promise, he said the PNP’s strategy will be based on closely monitoring statistical targets.

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President-elect Leni Robredo will be sworn in separately, the Robredo camp announced Wednesday, June 15. "While we have been preparing for a joint inauguration, we respect their decision and will begin our own preparations for a simple and modest ceremony," Dy said in a statement.
