In 2012 during my short business trip in Thailand I visited Black Temple. The Black Temple Chiang Rai is not actually a temple other than in name, it is actually a work of art, the Black Temple is by Thai artist Thawan Duchanee and features prominently his sculptures and art work throughout . He also has a small gallery opposite the Temple in which his art work is for sale. The Black Temple has a distinctive death type feel/theme with skulls and carcasses hanging in the main building and also some huge python skins stretching along the length of the massive table that stretches the length of the main Temple /building .

he Black Temple is easy to get to being no more then 10-15 mins drive from pretty much anywhere in Chiang Rai city , a taxi is your best option here and should cost no more then 200-400 Baht for the round trip from your hotel . You also should make sure to use that option and have your driver wait while you explore the Temple and then take you back as being on a quiet dead end street no taxi's pass the Black Temple.

All up a nice way to spend a few hours and definitely one of the Things to Do/See in Chiang Rai Thailand.

Inspired by this forum I am excited to visit PI next vacation.

Looks interesting. I've been in Chiang Rai last year. Unfortunately I didn't know about the black "temple" back then but at least visited the white one ;)
