Since 1996, I have been staying at the Kahama Hotel at irregular intervals.
The last time I was a guest was in April 2026.
From 1985 to 2026, I also gained experience in the following hotels:
Mtwapa: Prestige Leisure Hotel, Monalisa Hotel, Marry Villa and Hibiscus Lodge,
Shanzu: Serena Beach Resort
Bamburi: Kahama, Serverin Sea Lodge, Sherratton Beach Villagio, Azul Margarita, Sarova Whitesands and Travelers Beach Hotel
Nyali: Pridelinn Nyali and Bahari Beach Hotel.
All hotels are visitor-friendly. However, Serena Beach Resort, Serverin Sea Lodge, Sarova Whitesands, Travellers Beach Hotel, and Bahari Beach Hotel offer very good rewards. Therefore, in my opinion, booking at these hotels makes less sense for quality tourists from this forum.
For me, every hotel has its advantages and disadvantages.
For some members, the walk from the Kahama Hotel to the beach is a disadvantage, but I enjoy it.
Many people—all those who have been there for a while—know me and are happy to see me again. Yes, I know that strangers get approached about business.
And I always look forward to the – I almost wrote “Boy Scout” – route past the Kenia Beach Hotel to Yuls.
All the locals are kind and friendly to me, and that was the case even on my first visit. So it's not because they've known me for long.
Some members have expressed their complaints about the skylight in the Kahama rooms. Personally, it doesn't bother me. If the light is unpleasant for someone, there are ways to remedy this. Perhaps you should pack one or two opaque fabric items in your luggage. They take up hardly any space or weight.
Some members praise the breakfast. After three weeks at the latest, I want to upgrade my breakfast and buy additional bread and spread (jam).
Different refrigerators are annoying. Some of them freeze the contents, which is almost a disaster, especially when it comes to medications.
Anyone who needs to refrigerate medication should pay attention to this and point it out.
Although the pool is not Olympic-sized, it allows lap swimming of about 18 meters.
The location between the beach and Malindi Road, as well as between Nyali and Mtwapa, is almost unbeatable.
Accompanying guests are warmly welcomed and pose no problem. There's even a fair policy in this regard. Those who don't expect or bring visitors daily can book a single room. They only pay for the second person if they stay overnight. For those who only want a casual chat occasionally, this will prove cost-effective.
With the tuk-tuk drivers waiting on Malindi Road, you have to agree on or specify the price in advance.
With newcomers - those who don't know the prices - they naturally try to make the best possible profit.
As a result of this and also in terms of value for money, the Kahama Hotel is the best choice for me .
But just be yourself.
