Hier noch ne Anmerkung zu den Kosten:
Kenyans always accuse hoteliers of high rates .
Please join me on this quick ride.
Do you know that every Ksh100 :
We pay 16% to GOK.
We pay 10% Service charge
We pay 2% training levy. So in essence 28% just flies out of the window.
Then electricity ( Heat Light & Water ) cost globally should be anything between 6 and 9% . Coast resorts with running ACs go as high as 15%. Electricitu is real PAIN.
Labour cost ( Payroll & related) , globally would be anything between 14 % to 18%. In Kenya we hover between 21 % to 25% and it gets worse when revenues are depressed. Hotel & Tours have been signing slaty increase for the last many years with the respective unions and we maintain excellent relationship with staff. When was the last time you heard of a hotel or tour firm staff going on strike?
I have not even touched on food cost and beverage cost . If not managed well , you will end up feeding your guests for free. It's hard. You have an idea serving your family & visiting relatives at home . Everything is expensive.
Then I hope you also know that we have close to 20 different licenses to juggle . Trust me it is not easy. Let me ask my Bro Dan Okwiri to narrate his ordeal in running a hotel as a retirement plan.
Dont see the glamour of hotels and happy smiling faces . To smile and to be neat is part of our ethos and let that not deceive you.
We work really hard for every shilling we get paid , while government talks of 24 hour economy we have been doing just that for centuries. Hotels we operate 24/7.
We have parents whose children have grown up without enjoying the parent child close relationship. A resort GM can work for 18 hours jokes aside.
Next time before you ask us to charge nothing please read and reread my post .
Now let me thank and salute all the Kenyans and residents who have always supported us. We cant thank you enough and I know many of you appreciate the long working hours and sacrifice many of us do to serve you .
Tunasema Asante Sana .
